Last Rites - The Final Punkstravaganza is a video about punk rock, college radio, live music, reunions, departures, swimming grannies, cash and macaroni. Its a 29 track CD and a full length DVD with bonus features. All in one nifty package. The history behind Last Rites started 20 years ago when Scott Ruud started as a DJ for Milwaukee College Radio Station WMSE 91.7 FM. He was known as the Rude Boy and he played the hardcore, metal and punk that no one else was playing. In 2004 Scott decided to quit the station and move to Phoenix, Arizona. But he couldn't leave without throwing one hell of a bash. Scott persuaded The Crusties and Sacred Order, two legendary Milwaukee punk bands from the early-mid 80s to reunite for one night and play at his Last Rites party. He also got one of his favorite metal bands from the 90s to get back together as well - Milwaukee's Evel. Finally, Scott asked Manitowoc's Words That Burn to get the evening started. The CD/DVD set came about when Scott asked Milwaukee rock music video veteran Ron Faiola to videotape the show. The taping snowballed into a 63 minute long documentary featuring amazing live performances by The Crusties, Sacred Order, Evel and Words That Burn along with interviews of Paul New and Brian Kurec of The Crusties; Mikel Podolak and Beezer Hill of Sacred Order; Jay Gilkay of Evel; The Rude Boy; concert promoter Jack Koshick; WMSE General Manager Tom Crawford; and Couch Flambeau guitarist Jay Tiller. The DVD includes 3 bonus features: a never-before released video for die kreuzen's "Stomp" made by Last Rites director Ron Faiola in 1988; a slide show of still photos from the Last Rites event and a slide show of Milwaukee alternative/punk posters from 1980-2004. The CD is 63 minutes long and features 29 live tracks, including 10 songs not on the DVD. The Last Rites DVD was produced, directed and edited by Ron Faiola of Push Button Gadget Inc. and Cheapo Flims. Faiola has worked with Monster Magnet (I Talk To Planets), Pigface (Glitch), Smashing Pumpkins (Vieuphoria). The CD was produced and engineered by William Stace for Walls Have Ears, with helpful comments by Ron Faiola. (Trivial note: Ron Faiola was the drummer and founding member of Couch Flambeau. He appears on the Couch Flambeau CD anthology "I Did A Power Slide in the Taco Stand" available here on CDBaby.com: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/couchflambeau2 .)
