When GRAVESTONE formed in the late seventies the band featured Berti Majdan (v,b), Wolfgang Rittner (g), Rudi Dorner (g), Mike Schmidt (d) and Andy Müller (k). After their debut "Doomsday" (1979) the cast almost completely changed. With Dietmar "Oli" Orlitta (v,b), Taki Gradl (g), Rudi Dorner (g), Dieter Behle (d) and Andy Müller (k) the album "War" followed in 1980. After that, there were some further changes: Berti Majdan (v), Mathias Dieth (g) and Klaus Reinelt (g) now joined the band.
Many metal-fans are still of the opinion that GRAVESTONE made their debut with "Victim of chains", which was released by GAMA in 1984.In fact, the two albums which came before never were really taken notice of, because of dominant and progressive seventies-influences on them. But still there are a few quite interesting songs for metal-fans. A taste from that period as a bonus on this album, was made available by "Garden of Delight". Both "Doomsday" (1979) and "War" (1980) are available as CDs at "Garden of Delight" (www.diregarden.com).
With "Victim of chains" the band had already cast off their seventies roots; it was simply "pure" Heavy Metal. Powerful songs like "Fly like an eagle", "Rock´n´Roll is easy" or "Son of a freeway" are effectively interpolated by a very strong ballad "So sad". The album seems like a unified whole, so you will be disappointed that it only lasts about 30 minutes. Luckily, CD-players do have repeat-buttons.
In 1985 "Back to attack" followed with GRAVESTONE´s new bass-player Thomas Sabisch. Only one year later, Dieth and Behle were replaced by Jürgen Mekto (g) and Thomas Ihmbacher (d). After their fifth album "Creating a monster", which can be seen as their third metal-classic in a row, the band changed its name into 48 CRASH and began to experiment with more commercial stuff. When the album recorded by 48 CRASH - bonustracks can be heard on the "Creating a monster"-CD (Karthago 011) - was released, the band had practically ceased to exist. Dieth later played in bands like SINNER and U.D.O. (Stefan Riermaier, March 2005)
