Michael Anthony Nigro was born in 1971 in Southern California. At an early age he showed an interest in the guitar and began lessons when he was 12 years old with Lori Martin. After learning basic fundamentals he studied on his own until the age of 20 when began formal classical lessons with Bill Krause at the World of Strings in Long Beach. After about 1 year of lessons he decided to take music more seriously and began going to Long Beach City College and Cerritos College. At Cerritos College he further cultivated his abilities while taking lessons with the late Peter Krauss and playing in Dr.David Nelson's guitar ensemble. In 1997 Michael attended the prestigious Indiana University School of Music where he earned his Bachelor of Music degree in 2000 under the direction of Ernesto Bitetti. In Indiana he was an Associate Instructor of guitar and performed frequently at the University and around the city of Bloomington. Michael is currently in the Master of Music program at California State University Fullerton studying under David Grimes. At CSUF Michael is a member of the esteemed Fullerton Guitar Orchestra which has toured Greece and is going to Bulgaria in the summer of 2005. Since his return to California Michael has been regularly performing in and around Southern California. Some of the places he has performed at are the Aquarium of the Pacific, The Historic Breakers Hotel, The Las Vegas Library, Saddleback City College, Los Angeles Zoo, and The Ventura Classical Guitar Society. In July 2004, his CD of Argentine guitar music will be released by the company Music and Arts. This CD will feature compositions by Astor Piazzolla, Eduardo Falu, Maximo Diego Pujol, Adolfo Luna, and many others. In August, there is a tour scheduled to promote his CD and will perform in the cities of Kansas City, Indianapolis, Bloomington, Cleveland, and Oklahoma City. On May 1, 2004 Michael was presented with a Certificate of Congressional Recognition by Congress member, Grace F. Napolitano, for talent and artistry.
