"I know it's cliché... but if music speaks straight to the heart, then tango speaks right from the gut!" This is how singer Leon Palad relates his attraction to the tango repertoire. The singer's fascination and his conservatory background combine in his meaty interpretation of "Por una cabeza," in the stirring lyricism of "El dÃa que me quieras," and again in six other gorgeous tracks. "Part of the challenge was to bring the energy of a live stage into the recording studio, and I think everyone faced up to it," he says. With a similar background, Kilo Muñoz began his musical career performing in supper clubs and cafes in San Francisco. Even though he is fluent in the classical repertory, he also feels right at home hustling gritty tango songs. "Tango songs are always about love, different kinds of love. It's easy to be seduced by their melodies, as well as their passion and mysterious mood," he explains. Muñoz makes his point in an evocative interpretation of "Yuyo Verde" and in the gushing pathos of "Maria," among others. Check out the artist's website: http://www.essentialtango.com Track List: 1.
