Raised in the green pastures of Zacatecas, Mari Tere enjoyed her life in these open spaces. Her creativity was influenced by famous local artists such as Antonio Aguilar who had a ranch not too far from her home. As a song writer, she was also greatly influenced by her great uncle who wrote traditional regional plays such as the "Pastorela" a Christmas story and other writings dedicated to patron saints. As a child she was drawn to banda and live music that she witnessed during national parades. Early on Mari Tere discovered her love for singing along publically with townspeople on Mexican mother's day. Accompanying her brother on guitar also motivated her to develop her talents further and reminded her of the joy "alegria" music brought to her soul.

During her early adulthood she dedicated herself to her family but continued to use songwriting as a creative outlet and therapeutic escape to cope with life's challenges. Most recently, her dream for getting a singing career off the ground was truly realized when she released her first CD. Upon losing her parents in 2000, she was propelled to venture back to Mexico to cut her first CD. "Prietita Encatadora" was a tribute to her parent's memory. Her search to connect with her creativity exploded.

Mari Tere has sung most of her songs for community functions. She has participated in "Jamaicas", annual fiestas where new upcoming independent artists showcase their songs and are accompanied by a local mariachi band. Mari Tere has also debuted her work at local venues in the Los Angeles Empire such as "El Mercadito". She has also traveled to Mexicali , south of the border to promote her CD and coordinated a music video with a local radio station. Mari Tere continues to sing at community events, family events, baptisms, weddings, and such gatherings as well as for her personal joy. She also aspires to further compose songs around themes associated to her motherland or "mi tierra" and experiences about love, life, relationships, and dreams. Norteno, mariachi, and banda are her preferential rhythms although she also enjoys modern influences.

Mary Tere's Prietita Encantadora's release is a mix of rhythms of original work and popular Mexican favorites. She is accompanied by Mariachi and intertwines originals with some Mexican popular hits such as "Volver Volver". Mari Tere's songs speak to daily life experiences of Mexico's people living in rural areas, ranchos as well as general themes around love, relationships and life.
