A man and a guitar have always made a potent "love" combination in Latino culture. Perhaps the most striking use of that potency came from the singing movie stars in the golden era of Mexican cinema, dating back to the 1920s with Tito Guizar. It was time when the singing stars loved their women and horses equally well and played guitar like lost souls escaping the devil. Whether sitting in a cantina or asride a horse, the man with a guitar giving voice to his love-struck sentiments won hearts by the millions on both sides of the Rio Grande. These "Romeos of the Rio Grande" included Pedro Infante, Jose Alfredo Jimenez, Los Panchos and Cuco Sanchez On this release, several of their songs such as "Por Ella," "Los Laureles" and "Sabor A Mi" are lovingly re-created on the nylon-string guitar, backed by bass, button accordion, marimba and percussion. So relax a little - put on this collection of love songs, put your feet up and enjoy the ride back in time. Ben Tavera King has released guitar albums on a variety of labels including Folkways and Vanguard as well as Talking Taco Music. His film scores have been featured on PBS and the TV series "King Pin" as well as the film "Noriega." Check out the artist's website: http://www.talkingtaco.com Track List: 1. Dos Arbolitos 2.
