Boston Herald "Los Changos is without a doubt one of the most substantial outfits in the international world rhythm circuit." World Rhythm Calendar, Boston, USA Los Changos's music mixes jazz concepts with south american folk rhythms.The group started performing in 1998. Since then they have participated in many concerts and festivals in east coast including: XIIIº International Folk Festival (Boston, MA); IIIº Argentina-Brazil Jazz Festival (New York, NY); Iº Latin Culture Week (Boston, MA). In the year 2000 the trio did their first tour to South America sponsored by Berklee College of Music. Los Changos play original compositions by guitarist Julio A. Santillán as well as some "folklore" standards. Some of the rhythms they perform are: Chacarera, Zamba, Milonga, Huayno, Vidala, Tango and Candombe. Julio A. Santillán is part of a new generation of Argentinean composers that uses the strong rhythms of folklore with contemporary harmonies. He received the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award, the Arif Mardin Award and the Contemporary Writing and Production Achievement Award. He has graduated from Berklee College of Music. He has recorded and performed with many musicians from Argentina, Boston and New York including Raúl Carnota, César Isella, Oscar Stagnaro and Sandra Mihanovich. Fernando Huergo has performed with Mike Stern, Danilo Perez, Dave Weckl, David Sanchez, Dave Liebman, Claudio Roditi, Tom Harrell, Jeff Ballard, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Dave Kikoski. He teaches bass at Berklee College of Music. He has recorded more than 60 albums and toured with many latin-jazz artists from New York and Boston. Franco Pinna has performed and recorded with some of the best folklore musicians in Argentina, like Lucho Hoyos, Cesar Isella and Leopoldo Deza. In the U.S. he has played with Jeff Ballard, Bruce Barth, Oscar Stagnaro, Chris Cheek, Guillermo Klein, Oscar Feldman and Claudio Ragazzi among many others He graduated from Berklee College of Music.
