Dan Eppel was born in 1980 in Johannesburg, South Africa. His parents emigrated to America in 1986 where he attended Junior/High School in Memphis, Tennessee. His music career jump-started early, when in High School he joined the All-State Jazz Band (which selected only one guitarist per state). Soon after, he was granted a performance scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston, from which he recently graduated. He is proficient in most styles of guitar, and plays bass, drums, trumpet, voice and piano. While in Memphis he performs with the True Gospel Choir, a gospel band, CJ and Qwest, a contemporary jazz group, and his original Afro/World band, Boytjie. Dan has recently joined two additional regularly gigging groups based in Memphis: Master Blaster and the One Love House Band - both groups playing Reggae/Dub, Soul, Afro-Pop, and Boytjie originals. Master Blaster and the One Love House Band are lead by Hope Clayburn, formerly a member of Deep Banana Blackout. Dan performs internationally in places such as Boston, New York City, London and Cape Town. Dan has been featured at various music festivals such as the Williamstown Jazz Festival in Western Mass. "Boytjie, We Are One" is Dan's most recent album, containing his original compositions. The album features several different musicians. The core group consists of percussionists, Mimi Fiaindratovo from Madagascar and Demian Arriaga from Venezuela, drummer Adam Sturtevant from the US, and bassist Ben Das from the US. Also featured is pianist Oliver Rockberger from London. In December 2003 Dan will return to South Africa to record a new album featuring various South African musicians. Dan plays for unity and peace. Track List: 1. Book Ends (part 1) 2. Book Ends (part 2) 3. Eppel Sauce 4. Journey to Ixtlan 5. Body Choir 6. Trusta (part 1) 7. Trusta (part 2) 8.
