Sammy began playing the bass at the age of 9, he played in church groups with his dad, all the other musicians were adults and he was the child prodigy. He grew up around trios and Spanish church music. At the age of 14 was attending the Escuela Libre de Musica playing the trombone but that was not his calling the bass kept on asking to be played. As time passed by Sammy kept on playing the bass mainly as a hobby, it was always something he would do on his spare time. He was always around the Spanish Christian Music scene. He married in New Jersey in 1985 to Damaris Mercado, they have two children Samantha Dee and Samuel PJ who share their passion of music with their father. In 1989 he played with Jersey City Mass Choir for 3 years. Sammy's diversity in music caused him to explore all different types of music and in 1992 moved back to P.R. where spanish Gospel music was in a boom. Today, Sammy is one of the most celebrated Christian bassist of all time. Most noted for his work with Hispanic Christian singing sensation Roberto Orellena. He has worked with him for the past 6 years not only as a bass player but also responsible for the muscial production in Orellena's "FUSION" done in Puerto Rico. Sammy has a long list of about 75 Christian recording to his name and in each one of them he adds his own unique touch. His creativity and eccentric manner of expressing himself through the bass has made him one of the most solicited bass player in Puerto Rico in the Christian setting.
