In 1996, Miguel Govea and Los Compas released a compilation of material on compact disc entitled "Pachanga", documenting the group's evolution during the previous decade. Wanting a more unified presentation, Miguel Govea has now produced a follow-up effort, with an emphasis on consistency: in personnel, instrumentation/arrangements, engineering, and musical focus, namely Latin dance music - tipico and contemporary. The new work, recorded in September 1998, is titled "Con Los Compas se goza mas," (With Los Compas one enjoys more). It highlights the button accordion and vocals of Miguel Govea, backed by a swinging Latin rhythm section and tight, understated horns. In live performance and on this recording, Los Compas can claim the talents of some of the finest Latin musicians in the San Francisco Bay region. This C.D. confiems their reputation as superb interpreters of a variety of Latin dance music, equally adept at playing cumbias, merengues, danzones, cha-chas Latin jazz, and ballads.
