Since 1987, MiguelGovea and Los Compas have played in clubs, At community events, and for private functions throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. The group's 1996 debut C.D., Pachanga, received the following review in Latin Beat. "One of the hardest working bands on the San Francisco scene, Los Compas is led by Miguel Govea - one time member of the seminal Chicano New Song band, Los Peludos - who has shaped a sound that embraces the diverse musical cultures that make up the Bay Area Latino community. Cumbias, merengue, Tex-Mex, salsa, Latin jazz.."no se rajan" (they do not shrink)from any musical challenge... The enthusiasm and vibrancy never fail to generate sparks on their self-produced debut album. New York City transplant Joseph Wohletz, whose credentials include stints with Ray Barretto, The Cesta All-Stars, and Bobby Rodriguez y La Compania, takes the Eddie Palmieri vehicle 'Puerto Rico' to a new level, interpreting the melody with a bold brassy passion. Yet it's Govea with his button-row accordion who steals the show with vallenato pounding riffs pouring out a joy that sings on Colombian faves like 'La Gota Fria'... It's a fun filled effort that will delight any dancing requirement. (jesse Varela, Latin Beat Magazine, March 1997) Check out the artist's website: http://miguelgovea.com Track List: 1.
