Com Você is a Texas-based, acoustic jazz group led by vocalist Maggie Grebowicz and saxophonist Stan Killian. The name “Com Você†means “with you.†This project is an expression of two ideas: that world music is urban music, and that jazz is a living, 21st century art form. On this, their first CD, they bring ideas from contemporary urban music and avant-garde jazz to standard and not-so-standard Brazilian compositions by Antonio Carlos Jobim, Marcos Valle, Caetano Veloso, and Edu Lobo, as well as one composition by the great Pat Metheny, whose work has long engaged the Brazilian tradition. All of the vocals are performed in Portuguese, and the original arrangements feature the rich sax-vocal interaction and varieties of rhythmic patterns characteristic of the bossa nova tradition. The album features great performances by two of the strongest jazz pianists in the state of Texas, Andy Langham on piano and Eddy Hobizal on Fender Rhodes, as well as a guest appearance by saxophonist Philippe Vieux.
