Just the facts... about Alex and Quique

Alex de Grassi: Born in Yokosuka, Japan but grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Learned to play trumpet but at age 13, discovered the guitar and hasn't looked back.

Taught himself the guitar though has studied with noted teacher Bill Thrasher and jazz piano with Mark Levine and composition with William Mathieu.

First recording was Turning: Turning Back in 1978 on Windham Hill Records.

Has played at such notable venues as the Montreux Jazz Festival, Carnegie Hall, Belfast International Festival, Telluride, the New York Guitar Festival, and Wolftrap.

Grammy Award nominee and Indie Award nominee for The Water Garden.

Collaborates with Michael Manring and Chris Garcia in their world jazz trio, and with experimental guitarist g.e. stinson.

Quique Cruz; Native of Chile; now resides in SF Bay Area.

Grew up playing traditional Andean folk music and was inspired by the cross-cultural experimentation exemplified by groups such as Inti Illimani, Illapu, and by the legendary Victor Jara.

Quique plays charango, kena, and a variety of traditional flutes.

Founder of contemporary Latin American folk music Grupo Raiz (1980).

Toured and recorded as a sideman with Jackson Browne, Strunz and Farah, and Kenny Loggins. Has done some L.A. session work.
