The company was founded in 2002 by Marni Konner. After Marni’s baby Sammi was born, they shopped around for classes at local music programs, but couldn’t quite find a class they loved. Marni, a music lover, and marketing veteran of Atlantic Records, decided she could do it better. On a hot summer day, with Sammi in her baby carrier, Marni walked across the street from her apartment to a Hungarian church, and rented space in the basement by the hour. She bought a dozen egg shakers for $6, logged onto NYU’s website to hire a guitarist, and called other new mothers from her playgroup. The result was magic.
