Dog on fleas is a collection of multi-talented Hudson Valley, New York musicians and performers working on the 3 E's for kids: enrichment, education and entertainment.

Dog on fleas is an innovative, energetic band that plays original, meaningful songs for kids in diverse styles in a highly entertaining and interactive presentation. Some of the themes of the Fleas' songs include: respect, empathy, self-esteem, creativity, ecology, and diversity. They use a variety of instruments including fiddle, drums, trombone, sax, congas, bass, guitar, piano, and plenty of singing, in styles ranging from calypso to zydeco, and old time fiddle tunes to hip hop.

Dog on Fleas leader, Dean Jones, has been working in schools for the past seven years as a teacher, guest artist, and performer with the Arm of the Sea Theatre and the Hudson River Playback Theatre. Other fleas include: David Levine, Carlos Valdez, Raissa St Pierre, John Hughes, Matt Verrilli, and Shane Kirsch.

Collectively the band has 9 years of parenting, 32 years of teaching and 120 years of performing experience.

Kingston Freeman gives Dog on Fleas first CD, "fairly good songs for fairly good kids" 5 stars.

“There is something here to make both kids and adults laugh…. and there's also something here to touch every listener's heart.”
Ulster Publishing's Almanac

Dog on Fleas “doesn't pander to children. It treats kids as sensible, thinking creatures that can make logical leaps in song.”
Chronogram magazine

"This is a hip, fun, kid-friendly album your won't mind listening to on the way to the beach. There's a real Jonathon Richman quirky-type sense to songs like "Plenty of Cats" and Dig." This band has a strange approach to music, with lots of interesting sounds and playful production designed to delight their audience."
Kathy O'Connell, Metrokids Sound Off

Hoi Polloi is the inspired follow-up to the band's first popular CD “fairly good songs for fairly good kids.”

Hoi Polloi is a joyous romp through songs about pie, clouds, the dangers of parking lots, and what monkeys think about people. In “Yonderland,” we hear about a place where all the people are made of rubber bands and everything else is made from tin cans - is the grass always greener somewhere else? For “Goodnight Fudge,” a young boy bids adieu to his most prized possessions before heading off to bed.

The CD kicks off with “Blueberry Pie,” a rowdy ode to flavors with a full horn section and a sweet-toothed chorus. Fiddle, peddle steel, twangy guitars and down-home singing adorn the “Addage Song” “Clouds” has a soothing, almost tropical feel propelled by upright bass, autoharp and Latin percussion. And “Rowboat” makes use of electronic drums, effected saxophone and guitars, and weird, swirling voices to compliment this conundrum of a song.

Many parents have been eagerly awaiting the Fleas' second CD so they can have a break from the first one.
