"Wish I Could Fly" was born out of a desire to create an alternative to the Spice Girls. Now, I'm not putting down the Spice Girls, but it breaks my heart to see 6-year-olds dressing and dancing like popstar women. As a teacher and a Christian, I just knew this was wrong. Children are every bit as spiritual as grown-ups, but they often express it in different ways. Today's popular music is fun to listen to and fun to dance to, but it does so little to nourish our spirits. The goal of "Wish I Could Fly" was to do just that, and still be fun! The best feedback I've ever received comes from 2 different kids, in 2 different countries. They've never met, but they both told me that when they were younger, "Wish I Could Fly" was the music they chose to listen to as they were falling asleep. An adult commented that, in her opinion, this music is all about self-esteem. I guess it doesn't get any better than that!
