All Genres > Jazz > World Fusion > PROGDAY 2001: ProgDay 2001

This 2-CD set is the aural legacy of the seventh edition of the ProgDay festival, which took place on Labor Day weekend in 2001. The key word for the line-up that year is diversity. The six bands represented in this collection certainly epitomize the wide variety of sounds coming out of the progressive music scene today.

Fans of Magma and Heldon will be right at home with the hard spacy Zeuhl of YETI. Sigmund Snopek III brings an almost operatic art rock to the table. The Muffins marry jazz and improv with rock styles in an infectious way. Polydactyl is a fusion ensemble so hot it's a damn shame they aren't more well-known. Azigza takes sounds from all over the world and weaves a cohesive tapestry that is enjoyable, yet uncompromising. Arsnova takes the symphonic style to its most expressive, guiltless extremes. All material here is used with the permission of the artists.

This release was professionally recorded to 24-track tape by Mike Potter of Orion studios, and Fred Schendel of Sound Resources did a wonderful job on the mixing and mastering. The artwork and design, as always, are by the most talented Michael Bennett. This is a run of 1000 CDs which, once gone, will not be reprinted. Don't miss your chance to have this top-quality release at what we believe is a very reasonsable price.
