Mia Miata has taken the rich influence and textures of Jazz, R&B, Soul, and traditional Negro Spirituals, and cultivated a rich style known as Jazzy Soul. Jazzy Soul can be described as a fusion of Soul under the strong influence of traditional jazz.

Many say, Mia has created a unique and rich resonance that compares with the likes of Jill Scott, Sade, Nina Simone, and Phyllis Hyman. The debut independent release, Urban Arias is a tapestry woven between 15 original tracks, and an interpretation of the Negro Spiritual Lord, "How Come Me Here" newly entitled "Urban Aria". Mia wrote, produced / co-produced her entire album.

Mia's rich soprano ranges over 3 octaves. Her credibility stands from a background of classical training at the Baltimore School for the Arts in Vocal Performance. In addition to that, Mia worked with Dr. Nathan Carter and the highly acclaimed vocal trainer Betty Ridgeway where she performed with the world class Morgan State University Choir. Additional performances at Morgan State University would include, singing with the Philadelphia Philharmonic, the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and the Bonn Orchestra in Bonn Germany .

In a conversation with Mia, she gave a brief explanation of her project. "Urban Aria's are the unsung songs of the people of the African Diaspora. Jazz is the classical musical genre of the America 's. It is the foundation from which all other genres originate. I wanted to use heavy percussion, bass, flute, vibraphone, flamenco guitar, and saxophone to help narrate my lyrics".

When asked the question, What inspired your style as an artist?" Mia goes to say, "I wanted to incorporate the traditional with the non-traditional. I view music as a journey and an therapeutic experience, and at I want to take my listeners to places not found in music today. From the instrumentation o the lyrical content, I want my music to be the ultimate experience." Jazz is relative, Jazz is a state of mind, Jazz is a way of life and Music Is ...my religion.
