Sax - Tami Danielsson, Keyboards - Per Danielsson, Drums - Danny Gottlieb, Bass - Mark Neuenschwander, Percussion - Beth Gottlieb

This collaborative effort by renowned jazz drummer Danny Gottlieb (Metheny, McLaughin, Di Meola) and Swedish Pianist Per Danielsson infuses its expressive originals, written by Danielsson, with the colorful textures, which characterize Gottlieb's sound. Several spirited takes on "not so often heard" jazz standards and lyrical solos by all, including saxophonist Tamara Danielsson, add to the mix. With a sound all their own, the Gottlieb-Danielsson Project delivers a distinctive voice for those who love creative original jazz with straight ahead sensibilities.

The Gottlieb in the"Project" is Danny Gottlieb, one of the world's best jazz drummers. He was a founding member of the Pat Metheny Group, with which he toured and recorded for six years before he and bassist Mark Egan left to form the fusion group Elements. During the past 25 years he has performed and recorded with some of the world's greatest musicians notably John McLaughlin, Gil Evans, Sting, Al DiMeola, Stan Getz, Chick Corea, Herbie Hancock, Bobby McFerrin and many more. He has won multiple Grammies and magazine readers' polls, and continues to tour and record extensively.

Adding the Danielsson name is composer, arranger and educator, Per Danielsson. A native of Stockholm, Sweden, Per studied with Robert Malmberg and Bengt Hallberg before heading to America, specifically North Texas State University, to work on his "jazz chops." He has performed with jazz greats Louis Bellson, Clark Terry, Maureen McGovern and Lynn Seaton to name a few. He is currently the keyboardist with Chuck Owen's innovative big band, the Jazz Surge. As an educator, Per shares his skills and knowledge with students at the University of South Florida and Rollins College, and instructional jazz books published by Mel Bay. His latest solo recording, Dream Dancing, The Per Danielsson Trio featuring Danny Gottlieb and Mark Neuenschwander will be released on Clavebop Records in Spring 2004.

Rounding out the Gottlieb-Danielsson Project, and indeed making it a "family affair" is saxophonist Tamara Danielsson and percussionist Beth Gottlieb. Tamara, a graduate of North Texas State University who played lead alto and recorded with the illustrious One O'Clock Lab Band, is not only the wife of Per, but is an accomplished and versatile artist on her own. Her first solo release, So It Goes on Ichiban Records received international distribution and critical acclaim. She is co-author of Essential Jazz Lines in the Style of Cannonball Adderley. Beth Gottlieb, a successful percussionist, dedicated teacher (Interlochen, Rollins College), and wife of Danny, brings her considerable skills to the project, adding even more color and texture to help define the group's sound.

The two couples have brought in special guest Mark Neuenschwander to provide the thoughtfully solid bass lines, and what started out as two married couples who enjoyed hanging out and making music, has culminated in the Gottlieb-Danielsson Project Extended Journey. Separately they are impressive and accomplished musicians; combined, they have a shared chemistry that can dazzle.
