The Rochford Jazz Ensemble 5/8/03 rje The Rochford Jazz Ensemble, (Jim, Clacie, and Lonnie, are an instrumental trio consisting of piano, drums, and bass, that play 40's-60's and 70's popular music, along with some older Swing and Jazz standards, with their own arrangements and in their own unique style. The music of their three CD's (Interesting Mix, Swings!, & "3") can occasionally be heard on SD Public Radio's Jazz Nightly, where recently their CD "3" was proclaimed by radio DJ Jim "Uncle Jimmo" Clark to be the "best jazz CD from a SD group for 2002. (We won't even get into how many jazz recording were made by SD artists last year!) Rochford Jazz is a member of the 2002 - 2004 South Dakota Fine Arts Touring Roster. The band has played for President Bush's reception in Sioux Falls SD in 2002, and performed as from Boulder CO to Brazil, generally playing locally in central and western SD. The band recently went to Rio de Janeiro to "study" Latin music at its roots, and was individually invited to play at a club and private party in Rio. The group likes to feel that they play music that people can tap and hum along with; that listeners can carry on conversations with friends while still enjoying familiar tunes with interesting arrangements. The music is best described as mainstream easy-listening popular and standard instrumental with a "splash of class; think of champagne and red high heeled dancers".
