Reveiw From All About Jazz by C.Michael Bailey West Coast Saxphonist Robert Stewart turns in a searing and spitited live performance at the World Stage. This disc also has the distinction of being the late drummer Billy Higgins final recording. Stewart opens the disc with his own funky origional "Judgement" from his World Stage release of the same name.He follows this with another orgional "Get Out" followed by an upbeat version of "Days Of Wine and Roses". The disc concluded with lengthy investigations of Ellington's "Caravan" and John Coltrane's "Impressions" Richard Grant's trumpet provides trumpet support and he can play the blues with the best of them. But in the end it is Stewart who playes with all the fire and conviction of the taking what's old and having it renewed. ____________________________________________________________ ------------------------------------------------------------ Unfortunately Jazz lives in two worlds, one Black and one White.Only in America could the most recorded jazz drummer in history be unknown in his own neighborhood. Thanks for keeping his name and legacy alive./James Janisse KJzz. 88.9 Fm. 8:00pm until Midnight.
