Just Jeannie - Live at the Brickhouse...although this album features Jeannie's extraordinary vocal stylings, it is by no means Just Jeannie you'll want to hear! Jeannie is joined by a trio of outstanding Philadelphia musicians who's accolades include some of the finest recordings in jazz history! Jazz fans everywhere will immediately recognize drummer Micky Roker when they hear this CD. Micky is credited with playing and recording with Thelonius Monk, Oscar Peterson and Charles Fambro, to name just a few. Mike Boone composes and records his own albums as well as being a featured performer in the John Swanna band. Both of these gentlemen have performed on both sides of the puddle for American and European audiences alike. Newcomer Bob Thornton is the youngest talent appearing on Jeannie's CD. His playing is reminiscent of Monk, Garner and Peterson. He calls upon the spirit of these great pianists with flawless technique and sensitivity. You'll see what we mean when you hear his piano introduction of 'Round Midnight! This recording was long overdue! Jeannie has been performing in Philadelphia, New York and Europe for several years. Raised on gospel, rhythm and blues and all the magnificent jazz artists in the Delaware valley she has developed her own style of singing that is instantly recognized on concert stages and in jazz festivals from here to Paris! Jeannie is an avid in-line skater. Jeannie tells this story of a recent skating trip in Paris: While skating through the Red Light District of Paris, a group of us stopped in a local karaoke bar to have a beer and do a little singing. While signing my name to the performance list, a gentleman looked over at me and exclaimed, "Jeannie Brooks? What are you doing in Paris?" I recognized him as Kevin Dees, a fellow singer that I had worked with in a Philadelphia recording studio in 1982. He moved to Paris to continue his singing career in Europe. Another evening, I discovered a little restaurant nearby had a jazz pianist performing nightly. I had to get over there and see what was the rub. I walked in and asked if I would be able to sing a song. The pianist asked if I could sing. Well, I ended up singing until four in the morning! I was joined that evening by fellow Philadelphian and trumpeteer, Roger Prieto, who also happened to be in Paris staying at the same hotel as I. Needless to say I love my visits to Paris. My heart aches to return to this wonderful city of lights! You can hear Jeannie perform live in New Jersey at the Cape May Jazz Festival where she headlines the afternoon jam sessions in addition to her concert performances in the evenings! She is seen regularly at Lakey's, Rock Lobster, Ortleab's Jazzhaus and the internationally famous Warmdaddy's blues club in Philadelphia. The mayor's office of Philadelphia has invited Jeannie to perform occasionally for political and social events. Her electric stage presence adds a whole new dimension to the phrase, "political unrest". Let the renaissance begin! She remembers her performance for the Clinton Presidential Campaign: "The governor was a gracious listener who applauded after every song. He took the time to speak with me after the show and wished me luck in my career." Though she has developed her own unique style of singing, Jeannie's voice will remind you of the great jazz vocalists' of past and present. She has been compared to Dinah Washington, Sarah Vaughn, Nancy Wilson and Ella Fitzgerald. We are favored with a spirited scat exchange on this CD between Jeannie and Jimmy Odell in Jeannie's composition "I Love The Way You Dance". She'll haunt your dreams with her version of "'Round Midnight". Lovers, hang on to your heart when listening to "Passing Strangers". Then swing hard with Jeannie on "The Late Late Show". "I Could Write a Book" about the wonderful sounds of Just Jeannie - Live at the Brickhouse. On second thought, I'm just gonna sit back and give it a listen - RIGHT NOW!
