Alec Julien is a composer and jazz guitarist who grew up hating composers and jazz. He learned to compose jazz tunes because he was sick of playing standards. "Walking Tunes" is a collection of quirky, original jazz tunes. The tunes aren't quite like anything you're used to hearing, but not so weird that they'll leave you scratching your head. Someone once described the music as "like a burrito with frosting." We're not quite sure what that means. But through a miasma of chords and time signature changes, some kind of strange simplicity surfaces. Tunes you can sort of hum along with. Sort of. Tunes you can walk to.
