Strathmore and the Washington Area Music Association (WAMA) release of the Washington Area Music Timeline Concert Series: Volume I, a selection of performances from the year-and-a-half long project at the Mansion at Strathmore. Consisting of 64 concerts and culminating with the opening of the new Music Center at Strathmore on February 5, 2005.

These Wednesday night tributes highlighted music legends, rising stars and key moments in Washington music history.

The first volume of the CD contains 17 tracks with performances by local musicians, including Nicki Gonzalez, Commitment, the Dick Morgan Quartet, the Jewels, the Nighthawks, Hazel Dickens Band, Warner Williams & Jay Summerour, the Grandsons, Mary Battiata & Keith Grimes, Lori Kelley, Bill Kirchen, Honky Tonk Confidential, Bob Perilla and the Big Hillbilly Bluegrass Band, Chuck Redd, Richard Miller, the Legendary Orioles, Cathy Fink & Marcy Marxer, Chris Watling and Donal Leace.

The song selections range from bluegrass to R&B with the music of an older generation of Washington area musicians, including Roberta Flack's "The Closer I Get to You," Patsy Cline's "She's Got you," Tim Buckley's "Moulin Rouge," Charlie Byrd's "Desafinado," and Ola Belle Reed's "I've Endured." Profits from the CD sales will support local artist performances by WAMA and Strathmore.

Shelley Brown, Strathmore's Vice President of Programming, and Michael Schreibman, President of WAMA, produced the timeline concert series. The project is based on the timeline developed by WAMA, researched, compiled and written by Jennifer Hall. It was also researched by Sam Brylawski and Gene Deanna, with additional editing by Bill Holland and Diana Quinn.

"The Washington Area Music Timeline Concert Series CD pays homage to the past, while celebrating the future of this area's music scene. The partnership between Strathmore and WAMA helps recognize the richness and diversity of Washington area music," said Eliot Pfanstiehl, President & CEO of Strathmore Hall Foundation, Inc.

"I am extremely proud of the Timeline concerts. This CD is a showcase of Washington music's great legacy and represents some of the finest moments of the landmark concert series," said Mr. Schreibman.
