TAlk about jazz in Winston-Salem and Joe Robinson's name immediately come to mind, hitched along with a cooler than cool echo of Miles Davis' smooth, vibrato-less timber of trumpet. Robinson was a musical fixture at the now sadly defunct jazz spot The Cellar, and many a weekend night, you could find Joe and his band blowin' a dead-on version of "Killer Joe,' or " Giant Steps" to standing room only crowds. Yes, it's hard to find a true jazz venue in the Triad, but Robinson is determined to keep the music palying. "Movin' On", his second independent jazz release, came out a few weeks ago to big buzz. It's a comtemporary disc, with silky standards ("Days of Wine and Roses," Stella By Starlight") woven throughout a neon-hued tapestry of Stevie Wonder funk and groove-laden originals, like the gorgeous "Theme for Alfreda," the playful "Love Dot. Com" and the blues heavy "Runnin' Woman. "Movin' On" is more than just a CD; it's a first class flight to the height of jazz. Check out the artist's website: http://www.joerobinson.net Track List: 1.
