Gary Davis started as a drummer at age nine and first picked up a saxophone at age 16. Davis made the saxophone his main instrument and the resulting recognition as a 2003 award winning contemporary jazz saxophonist makes it clear he was born to play sax. He developed his musical chops while attending the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, where he studied jazz and expanded his listening and studying to many jazz and R&B sax masters including Joe Henderson, Stan Getz, John Coltrane, Wilton Felder, Grover Washington, Jr. and King Curtis. With a line of musical influences including related Blues singer Freddie King, Davis has formed a sound and style that he describes as contemporary jazz with an adult groove, a spice of R&B on a traditional jazz foundation. Davis' 2002 release "Don't Wait For Spring Remix" launched four songs into radio rotation. The CD has been extremely well reviewed and has attracted both national and international sales and airplay. In 2005, Davis released a new CD entitled "Playing My Dues" that has already been described as "tasteful and refreshingly absorbing." Gary continues to be booked at popular national and regional venues. He has performed before sell-out crowds to audience and reviewer acclaim. He has worked and collaborated with many well known artists in the music business such as: The Jazz Crusaders, Herbie Mann, Jeff Lorber, Ronnie Laws, Chris Botti, George Duke, Norman Brown and many more. Look forward to hearing and seeing The Gary Davis Band in your area. His show is definitely one people are returning to see!
