Zumbao Trio is a exciting group with influences from countries like Venezuela and Brazilcombined with contemporary jazz. This is not your typical Latin Jazz band, it brings a whole new flavor from the rich south american region. Posed with the question of how original Jazz Compositions will sound when mixed with their influences, Jose Duque and Luis Gonzalez decided to form a Band. In this case one of the most purist approach to Jazz, a Trio. ZumbaoTrio (pronounced [zoom-bah-uh], Venezuelan slang for "Daring", "Forward", "Reckless"( or even "Crazy"), tries to come up with answers to this questions. Venezuelan Rhythms, Latin American grooves, Jazz, Rock or Pop. They all have a voice in Zumbao trio. The result is a "Melange" yet solid set of tunes that definitely portrait the mood of a pseudo-Latin style but with a hint of numerous influences acquired along the way in other musical adventures and through music school.
To give the Tunes a Jazz Feel, the main focus has been Improvisation, where the tunes , like in the old good Jazz School are just a vehicle to freely improvise and create. Zumbao Trio attempts to do the same, but in this case the outcome is far more personal and nostalgic than your regular Jazz trio.
