Smitty is the real thing: a real Swing singer. This wouldn't have been remarkable 50 or 60 years ago, but it is a rare and wonderful thing in the 21st century. She has been compared to those who invented what she does--the "cool" jazz singers: Peggy Lee, June Christy, Rosemary Clooney--but make no mistake about it, Smitty is a modern original known for her relaxed Swing phrasing and flawless pitch. As a teenager, Smitty performed professionally, fronting a successful rock band (singing and playing bass). In the middle of recording her first rock album, she quit. She decided that she would be a lot happier returning to the music she grew up with: jazz. She attended the University of Denver, earning degrees in Theatre Direction and Art History, those useful subjects everyone's parents want them to study at college. (She also studied lighting design and creates the lighting schemes for most of her own concerts.) Smitty performs either with big bands or her own touring jazz combos: Smitty Plus Four and Smitty Plus Six. In 2002, Smitty decided to take a break from the entertainment world. She relocated to Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. By settling down off 'the road', Smitty has been able to fulfil a longtime wish to return to school. She is studying for her Masters in Library and Information Studies at Dalhousie University. Have no fear, Smitty is not completely out of the music business. This long-awaited album is proof that Smitty is still swinging. Check out the artist's website: http://www.smittyjazz.com Track List: 1. It's Alright With Me 2. Small Town 3. Route 6 4. Road Song 5.
