Buffalo native Mary Stahl is known for delighting audiences all over the country with her distinctive jazz-cabaret vocal stylings. Miss Stahl has been featured in performance with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and has released three CDs, and is currently completing work on a new CD she and Jim Calabrese are collaborating on- a collection of lullabies. Although lullabies aren't the genre of music they're best known for, Jim's sweetly sophisticated arrangements provide a soothing compliment to Mary's vocals, making every tune a warm embrace.
Mary has embraced a musical style that can be described as sultry and girlish, while at the same time swinging and sentimental. Her muse was inspired by the likes of Anita O'Day and Ella Fitzgerald with a dash of Patti Page, a dab of Judy Garland and a dollop of Peggy Lee.
Mary's listeners say they hear her smile when she sings, for in her strong yet understated way an emotional communication is at the core of each performance. Every line of lyric is delivered with intent and feeling, and melodies are given deeper meaning and greater impact.
