Lisa Gilliam attended Virginia Union University (VUU) in Richmond, Virginia and became the first graduate of the speech and drama program in 1995. However, music has always been her first love. In 1994, Lisa was selected as one of thirteen United Negro College Fund/Janet Jackson Rhythm Nation Scholarship Winners and was flown to New York City to meet Janet Jackson. She was also selected as one of three scholarship recipients flown to Los Angeles, California to thank Janet Jackson for her contribution to the United Negro College Fund. The following year, representatives of the Essence Awards visited VUU to videotape Lisa thanking Janet Jackson for her scholarship. The videotaped appearance was aired on the 1995 Essence Awards in which Janet Jackson was honored. During the summer after graduation from VUU, she was selected as an intern for The National Black Theatre Festival in Winston-Salem, NC. At the festival, Lisa assisted the costume and property mistress and was a volunteer assistant to the technical director for actress/vocalist Della Reese's performance.

Lisa has sung background and lead vocals as well as worked on a radio show, Reaching Higher, with national gospel recording artist, Carlton Burgess. She is the president and founder of Gilliam VOCALS, Inc., a Christian Entertainment Corporation whose mission is to uplift, encourage, and enhance the lives of people through performance, literary, and communication arts. The company co-sponsors a monthly event, "4th Friday's" Praise Festival where independent Christian artists, musicians, poets, etc. can come and display their talent. Lisa has had the opportunity to share the stage with some of the most talented independent and national recording artists and producers in the DC Metropolitan area including Ason, Detrick Edwards, Kevin Gray, J-Mac!, Rob Mercer, Tyrone Powell, and Stephan and Silas Terry. Lisa was also the booking agent for Rob Mercer until she released her cd, Past to Present in October 2004. She continues to minister (preaching, singing, reciting poetry, and acting etc.) whenever given the opportunity. She released her first gospel music/ spoken- word cd entitled, "Past to Present" in 2004 in which she shares several of her testimonies so that others can be healed. It is her sincere desire that the ministries God has birthed within her uplift, encourage, and enhance your life!
