Based in Baltimore, Maryland, Felicia Carter is a jazz and blues performer specializing in songs from the Great American Songbook, and "old school" blues. Her singing style is influenced by a broad mix of vocalists ranging from Mildred Bailey to Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson. Her aim as a vocalist is to "tell the story" of each song to her audience. Ms. Carter has been singing professionally since 1996. She first began studying voice at Washington College where she received the Stewart Drama Award upon graduation in 1991. For four years, she studied voice with opera singer Margot Bos-Stambler until Ms. Bos-Stambler's passing from this world. In 2002, Ms. Carter wrote a performance-based show entitled "Great American Songwriters" honoring composers and lyricists who helped shape the Great American Songbook. In 2003, she wrote original music and lyrics for the musical "Dipteracon", based on Jean-Paul Sartre's "The Flies", which premiered at La Mama Etc. in Manhattan. In 2004, she premiered "Great American Performers", a tribute in anecdotes and song to over 15 of America's finest entertainers.
