Fay Victor, an up an coming jazz vocalist on the European scene has given all who have listened something good to talk about.

A native of Trinidad and Tobago and raised in New York City, Fay started out performing at clubs and concerts around New York City. She has appeared at Birdland, Caviarteria and B. Smith's just to name a few. She has performed with the likes of Bernard "Pretty" Purdie, Walter Booker, Yuron Israel, Don Braden and Bertha Hope, amongst others.

Since moving to Europe, she has been the featured vocalist for concerts, festivals and club dates in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Spain, Russia, Japan, Andorra, Mexico and India.

In 1998, Fay Victor's CD "In My Own Room" was released on the Dutch label, Timeless Records. The CD has received great reviews in the US, France, Sweden, the Netherlands and Germany. All Music Guide(Oct' 99) gave the recording 4 1/2 stars and say "she bends the lyrics, swings, sings ballads and the blues. Her delivery can be strong, sassy, smoky or sophisticated depending on the musical situation and the musical picture she wants to paint. Fay Victor has all the tools to be a major player in the jazz vocal scene."

The new CD, "Darker Than Blue" is also a Timeless Records release. This recording features a few of the up and coming musicians on the scene such as Vijay Iyer (piano), John Hebert (bass), Steve Hass (drums), Anton Goudsmit (guitar) and Marc Mommaas (Tenor Saxophone).

This recording is a step in a new musical direction. What Cadence Magazine (Jul' 99) wrote regarding "In My Own Room" is a good description of her approach to the music -- "she applies freedom and improvisation and constantly attacks her songs from unexpected directions...This is a fine CD from a singer who takes chances." Or you could just call her style elegant vocal jazz with a spontaneous delivery.
