Reviews of "The Waiting Room" EP: Review by Kevan Breitinger of indie-music.com: I'm betting Emma-Lee was a popular girl up in Toronto, making those long winter nights fly by in moments. Her intelligent songs and steamy tones could peel the paint off your walls; listen at your own risk. But she's worth it, and who needs painted walls, really? She's got a sophisticated sound of jazz-influenced pop, and the most commercial tune on this debut CD, "The Waiting Room," harbors a slight country twang. But her true sizzle is found in that voice of hers, a smooth, sultry instrument that she wields perfectly. These arrangements are meticulous and well produced, the band tight. There are some impressive guitars, fat hooks, and the trumpet on the first cut is perfection. But again . . . it's that voice. Emma-Lee wrote the songs, all interesting, though some work better than others. She portrays the various nuances of each tune flawlessly, from languid to plaintive to dreamy and back again, spinning a pristine web of delicate emotions effortlessly. Though the CD contains only five songs, they're enough to make an impression. Completely feminine, her perspective is yet refreshingly strong and powerful. Even while declaring the vulnerability of "What I Feel," she does so with a fearlessness that flows from an inner strength. The plaintive passion of the lyrics is only highlighted by the forceful truthfulness of her emotive voice. Same with the seductive "Save Me"; the dreamy sexuality of The Voice builds to a sultry intensity that burns with potency. "And if I start to fall, don't think you've won it all." Canada's intelligent, female answer to Barry White, and Barry crawls to the ropes, his head hung in shame. Don't take it too hard, Barry, you never stood a chance. Review by Lindsay Whitfield of Soul Shine Magazine: A surprising little number, Emma-Lee appears a polished pop princess at first glance, but by listening to "Hypnotized" you realize a completely divine jazz influenced musician aka Sade-esque. Emma-Lee's vocals dip in and out of what could be remixed as a superb dance track, enabling her music to be used in several markets and reach an even broader audience with ease. She has true potential for her vocals and songwriting capabilities. One does wait for her vocal energy to really revitalize the track with vibrato, but Emma-Lee isn't about showing off, she maintains a calm and collected tone with the occasional note in the heavens to show off her range. This raw and real vibration give the impression that Emma-Lee says what she needs to and makes you anxious for what influence and capacity she has on the track that follows.
