Cats & Jammers was for 16 years the premier swing vocal trio in the San Francisco Bay Area. Consisting of Piper Heisig on string bass and vocals, Sylvia Herold on rhythm guitar and vocals and Tony Marcus on guitar, violin and vocals, the Cats thrilled audiences throughout the west. Phil Elwood of the San Francisco Examiner said "they swing like mad!". Utilizing their three voices to create stunning arrangements, they built on the foundation of the Mills Brothers, the Boswell Sisters and the Delta Rhythm Boys. They are joined on their CDs by the superb reed player Jim Rothermel. Each of the band members is a lead singer, and their harmonies have to be heard to be believed. In their farewell concert in 2002, five hundred people showed up to bid goodbye to a band that took a familiar style and went somewhere that no one had gone with it...making it somehow up to date, while showing great respect for where it came from. Kicking The Gong was their first CD, and contains Smoke Rings, the most requested song from the band's repertoire.
