Carol Rossio performs jazz and pop with a French flair - ooh la la! Rossio's second CD release, Nuit et Jour, is a charming collection of jazz standards in French plus Cole Porter tunes de toutes les choses Parisiennes.

"Chanteuse and incorrigible Francophile Rossio has finished another album of finger-snapping balladry and romantic jazz, Nuit et Jour..."
- Willamette Week

"With the help of such top-flight jazz cats as Tom Grant and Dave Captein, Rossio pays loving tribute to the flavor of Paris with a program of Cole Porter, cabaret tunes and jazz standards sung in French. She's celebrating the release of her new CD Nuit et Jour..."
- The Oregonian

"Smart, knowledgeable, stylish and bright, Carol Rossio's intercontinental mosaic of classic American songbook and French cabaret staples (Nuit et Jour) puts an ironic spin on songs of love. The ebullient swing of her jazz accompanists buoys the dark and brittle gaiety of material created for Paris between the wars."
- Lynn Darroch, Special Contributor to the Oregonian

"French tunes will tickle your ears."
- Portland Tribune

"Carol Rossio is a sophisticated performer with a classy voice. Her original tunes are both fun and provoking. Her treatment of classic favorites is fresh and clever."
- Positively Entertainment

"(Fez) Paris is one of the greatest music cities ever, a cauldron of unbridled sexuality and sophistication that has cooked some of the great American artists to supernova stardom. With sultry, jazzy tunes, and the nasal twang of Edith Piaf, it is clear that Carol Rossio wants to be part of this club."
- Portland Mercury

"If Rossio's breezy French pop had been hitting the airwaves at the time of the Revolution, the masses would've been less prickly and heads might not have rolled."
- Willamette Week

"CAROL ROSSIO Friday August 17 / 3:00 - Fountain Stage
Carol Rossio has made an international splash with her CDs Nuit et Jour and French Mix, collections of jazz and world beat influenced pop originals and standards sung in French and English."
- The Bite of Portland

"…fantastic French feeling…a funky, musical menage à trois…"
- The Oregonian

"Ms. Rossio's CD, French Mix, is a perfect blend of French jazz and American pop delivered with sophistication and wit."
- Borders Books and Music

"Ms. Rossio is Portland's very own Little Sparrow. Well, not quite. She's more of a French Astrud Gilberto, singing breezy songs equally reminiscent of Rio and the south of France."
- Willamette Week

"Kidjo lives in Paris, and her opening act also had a French twist. Portlander Carol Rossio - who spends half her time in Paris - led her four-piece band through what could be described as French café folk rock…the vocal chops of Madeleine Peyroux (Atlantic) with considerably more elegance."
- The Oregonian

"Emouvant (moving, touching), mignon (precious, cute)…j'aime beaucoup French Mix!"
- Polygram Recording Artist Angelique Kidjo

"She ditched her worldy possessions and pursued art and music in the lovely town (Aix-en-Provence) and eventually became fluent enough to play clubs in Portland and Paris alike. Now she has an album, French Mix, an appropriate blend of English and French lyrics and a tangible result of her retreat. Rossio sings about life as a modern woman with a good dose of knowing humor."
- Willamette Week

"Their common interest and background in France, combining (Jim) Cuomo's repertoire of tunes written in French and Rossio's original material, made this project (French Mix) knit together a fresh and charming recording."
- Positively Entertainment

"Rossio is hoping to sell the French on the idea of an American doing the French version of American pop. If, like hot dogs and American slang, the French try to outlaw French Mix, Rossio will know she's on the right track."
- Willamette Week

"Like previous oddball Roger Nusic, Carol Rossio is a Portlander. As self-described in the liner notes, a by-product of '... a genuine baby boomer midlife crisis cliché.' In this song, Rossio reflects the inability of her inner child to decide between Brain Surgeon or Flamenco Dancing. You can't get much sillier than that while keeping a straight face..."
- The Oddball Auditorium

The CD features internationally acclaimed Steinway recording artist Tom Grant on piano, Dave Captein (Randy Brecker, Mose Allison, Tal Farlow, Joey DeFrancesco) on upright bass, and Graham Lear (Gino Vannelli, REO Speedwagon, Santana, Paul Anka) on drums. Nuit et Jour was mastered by critically acclaimed recording engineer Bob Katz (Grammy-nominated Paquito D'Rivera's Portraits of Cuba; Chesky Records) (www.digido.com). Several different cuts from Nuit et Jour have been in regular rotation on KMHD 89.1 - "The Jazz Station". Rossio and Grant teamed up for a joint performance at The Taste of Beaverton, opening for Grammy award winning Latin jazz artist Poncho Sanchez. Rossio has also opened for internationally acclaimed Polygram recording artist Angelique Kidjo at the Aladdin Theater, and a Portland Library performance celebrated a special traveling Smithsonian exhibit entitled "The Jazz Age in Paris". Rossio has performed at the United Nations and Boston Symphony Hall with the Paul Winter Consort and the Back Bay Chorale; The Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall with famed choral conductor Robert Shaw and the Choral Arts Ensemble; The Oregon Symphony with Portland Symphonic Choir; The Fox and Crow and The Jazz Club, Havana, Cuba; The Jazz Spot in Edinburgh, Scotland; Auberge du Soleil in Napa, CA; Rick's Nightclub in Zihuatanejo, Mexico; Baiser Sale, Petit Journal Montparnasse, Café de Cluny and Petit Opportun in Paris, and other spots throughout the U.S. and Europe. In October 1997 Rossio recorded her debut solo CD French Mix (jazz and world beat influenced pop originals sung in French and English) in Portland and Paris, and held her Paris CD release party at the infamous Café de Cluny in the heart of the Latin Quarter. Cuts from French Mix have been played on Portland area radio stations OPB (91.5FM), KMHD (89.1FM) and KBOO (90.7FM).
