skiesWIDEopen is John Inman's sophomore release. The album plays boldly with tone and melody remaining in the forefront, as well as diversity. The disc features guest players to fit each track and give it a life and feel of it's own. The opening track "seduction" opens up with an undeniable groove that will hook you from the start, leading into "theRAIN" which is a total Journey-esque/AOR style rocker that wastes no time at all getting to the shred fills...yet maintaining a melodic head. "southernWINDS" is a totally smooth, airy feeling soft rock/ballad featuring some awesome bass movements from bassist Martin. "forceMAJEURE" and "desere'e" are smooth jazz numbers featuring session jazz sax ace David Lee Schloss... for a truly sultry and sassy feel. "acrobat" is an upbeat, firey fusion-rocker featuring a guest solo performance by G9 artist Michael Harris, as well as a kicking rhythm section with Martin and Bittick. The title track is an experimental prog-rocker featuring Rick Read on Chapman Stick, and drummer Ross Young for a blazing performance. The tracks "elPASOsixtyNINE" and "desere'e'" show a slight Latin jazz departure for John, while tracks like "inside" and the subtle/quiet "afterHOURS" slow things down and speak more softly. Overall, once again, an album of varied moods and tones... such as the artist himself.

"Fans of high-octane, guitar-based jazz-rock fusion are advised to pick up the latest album from Texas guitar slinger John Inman. "skiesWIDEopen" picks up from where John's last instrumental album, Modeous Eclectic, left off and then some. A solid improvement in both Inman's compositions and the overall sonic atmosphere makes it a fine choice for anyone interested in guitar legends like Neil Schon, Greg Howe, Steve Vai and Alan Holdsworth. The album features some high profile guest artists, including guitarist Michael Harrisand bassist James Martin, who help Inman round out the sound stage. Topping off a fine selection of original tracks (including the majestic sounding "New Frontier" and the album's superb title track) is the CD's state of the art sound quality which adds a streamlined effect to the overall listening experience. Drawing on a wealth of instrumental guitar styles (from hot fusion, smooth guitar jazz, progressive rock and even Latin jazz) the Dallas-based Inman covers a ton of musical ground here and will, no doubt, make a lot of guitar enthusiasts quite happy with the excellent "skiesWIDEopen". - Robert Silverstein/20th Century Guitar Magazine

"SkiesWIDEopen is very mature and moving. This disc is full of Jazz and Fusion and always surrounded by a good dose of melodic rock. The opener 'Seduction' gathers courage on the riff with a remarkable Guitar that churns out melody to all fields. 'The Rain' hits immediately…Melodic Rock of big flavor. Mr. Inman reaches bell' obbietivo, an attractive album under the melodic profile, very involving and melody to envy. WOW! One of the best Melodic Guitar albums of the year. Excellent! 5 Stars" - Guitar Chef Magazine/Italy
