The Epic Battle, Bon Pantalon's first release, captures the energy and diversity of this band perfectly. Each track showcases the bands tremendous chops while never sounding overbearing or losing the groove. Most of all, you can feel the energy that results from having a band that's been playing together for more than 5 years.

Bon Pantalon's sound is not easily characterized because they have the ability to do anything they want. Rock, funk, reggae, swing, even rap (but that's a secret) go into creating the BP sound. They are the opposite of smooth jazz. Eschewing guitar, Adam's frenetic key and organ work and Tito's sax take melodic duties, while John's drums and Jason's electric bass lay it down. Adding to the rhythmic texture is the percussionist, Dan, whose rig is built around a set of marching tenor drums.

"The Epic Battle", the title track, is a three-part epic that goes from evil funk, to techno, to laid back reggae. "Untitled01.wrk" goes between blazing riffs and laid back grooves. "Cruisin" opens up the disc with funk, then is followed by the slow groove of "Fuzziness."

"The Jam That Never Ends" has an otherworldly feel to it (it's "never ending" because BP has been known to stretch this out to 30+ minutes), then "Summer Night" just plain rocks, and features an insane tenor drum solo. Closing is the groove fest "Slam Funk," or, is it? Rumor has it there's a hilarious hidden track, but who knows?

Track after track Bon Pantalon throws something new at the listener, and a fun listen is guaranteed. Check it out!
