Emerging as one of New York City's most sought after young acoustic and electric bassists, Bill Holcomb is active in the live pop/rock, jazz, Broadway, and studio scene.

Bill Holcomb has recently completed his first solo album project “Thinking Out Loud,” featuring some of NYC's top musicians. This self composed and produced project is an eclectic blend of jazz influenced styles.

When asked about Thinking Out Loud, Holcomb had this to say:
"Well, the concept of "Thinking Out Loud" was to create a CD of jazz music that: is fun for me and the musicians to play, creatively involves great musicians, and is enjoyable for both simple and advanced listeners. Stylistically, it hits some different jazz veins that I like, there is a straight ahead swing tune, some jazz rock, some funk, some ECM type stuff, and even an acoustic pop tune written and sung by my lovely and talented friend Emily Curtis. The CD has a "smooth" jazz sound to it at times, but in my opinion this "smooth" sound happens in an organic and natural way. The compositions evolve and involve the musicians to that end. Most of the mainstream smooth jazz today is made of lame sequenced synth stuff and boring drum loops. The writing on this album is counter to the bad smooth jazz that exists today.

I had the very fortunate opportunity involve some of my colleagues from the NYC music scene, some of whom include Steeley Dan Guitarist Jon Herington, Joel Frahm saxophonist with Jane Monheit, and Blues Brothers trombonist Birch Johnson. From start to finish there were great people involved helping me bring this project to life.

And the result? Well, I am real satisfied with what was born: solid compositions, great musicianship, a very well recorded and good sounding CD, and fun music that I still enjoy listening to. I trust the listeners will find that and more..."

Holcomb's equal fluency and command of acoustic and electric bass has earned Holcomb a wide range of performance and studio credits: Linda Eder, Diahann Caroll, Carl Anderson, Jamie O. , Mary Gatchell, Emily Curtis, Rona Figeroa, The Mahavishnu Project, Brasilia, Dennis Rowland Band, Ira Sullivan, Gene Bertoncini, Frank Vignola, Bill Perkins, Bud Shank, Chuck Marohnic, Lew Anderson Big Band, George Andrews Big Band, and weekly at Redeemer Church NYC.

Holcomb is also regularly found performing in the Broadway pit orchestras, currently the Broadway production of Urinetown, The Lion King, Oklahoma, and Thoroughly Modern Millie. Some previous productions have included: The Civil War, The Life, The King and I, Once Upon a Mattress, Fosse, Jeckyll and Hyde, Annie Get Your Gun, and The Music Man.

Holcomb received a Bachelors of Music performance from Arizona State University and a Masters of Music performance from New York University.
