MEL BROWN is one of the most versatile drummers in the world and can be heard on countless recordings from Bebop to Motown to Country to Pop. His resume includes 20 years with Motown, recording and touring with such timeless acts as The Supremes, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, and Stevie Wonder. Brown has also recorded for such diverse acts as The Beatles, Teddy Edwards, Ronnie Milsap, and Leroy Vinnegar. Brown has recieved numerous awards and special recognition for his achievements, including 1st place at the Hennessy Jazz Search, the Portland Music Association Lifetime Achievement Award, and induction into the Oregon Jazz Society Hall of Fame. On "Mister Groove," Mel assembled the funkiest, most soulful players in the Northwest and recruited talented New Orleans producer John Fischbach (Stevie Wonder, War, Carole King, Juan Carlos Formell) to team with young multitalented Portland-based producer Luther Russell to produce and engineer the album. ?Mister Groove? features 11 new tracks including 4 original songs (tracks 2, 5, 8, 10; #5 written by Mel), 5 unique soulful covers (tracks 1, 4, 6, 7, 11; #7 Viva Tirado is a cover of the legendary east L.A. latin band El Chicano), and 2 songs that feature legendary Portland jazz figure ?Sweet Baby?
