Tenor Sax - Jack Wilkins, Drums - Danny Gottlieb, Guitar - Barry Green, Bass - Mark Neuenschwander, Synthesizer - Chuck Owen, Piano - Clay Perry, Trombone - Tom Brantley, Trumpet - Jay Coble, Alto Sax - Valerie Gillespie, Trumpet - Scott Wendholt Jack Wilkins is Associate Professor of Jazz Studies at the University of South Florida School of Music where he is Director of the Jazz Studies Program, teaches courses in jazz improvisation, jazz styles and analysis, and jazz history, coordinates the jazz combo program, and teaches applied jazz performance for seniors and graduate jazz majors. Formerly Assistant Professor of Jazz Studies and Saxophone at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music, Mr. Wilkins has held faculty positions at Appalachian State University, the University of North Carolina, and as a Teaching Assistant at Indiana University. Mr. Wilkins is an active performer, having appeared as guest artist with numerous professional, college and high school jazz bands, giving solo recitals, jazz concerts with his own groups, performing with the USF Faculty Jazz Quartet, and as a sideman in many and various musical situations. Jack has also been successful as a clinician and adjudicator at many high school and college jazz festivals in the U.S., Canada, Russia and South Africa. He is on the faculty of the Jamey Aebersold Summer Jazz Workshops and a Saxophone Clinician for the Selmer Instrument Company. Jack Wilkins' career has included performances with many leading jazz artists and entertainers such as JJ Johnson, Red Rodney, Nat Adderley, Bobby Shew, Nnenna Freelon, Hank Marr, and David Baker. Mr. Wilkins has made jazz recordings with guitarists Bob Ferrazza and Scott Sawyer, bassist Matt Kendrick, pianist Paul Tardif, Chuck Owen and the Jazz Surge (big band) and is featured with Nat Adderley on "Monk in the Sun", a collection of Theolonius Monk tunes performed by Tampa Bay area jazz artists. He has also made recordings on a variety of commercial releases including John Mellencamp's Scarecrow. Jack Wilkins newest release, "Ridge Lines", on Clave Bop Records, features Wilkins' compositions and playing with various groups from quartet to nonet. Appearing on the CD are drummer Danny Gottlieb, trumpeter Scott Wendholt, and guitarist Barry Greene. Jack's first compact disk, ARTWORK, has received significant radio airplay and very positive reviews.
