Mulligan Stew is truly an all-star band, comprising five of the Twin Cities' finest jazz musicians, paying spirited tribute to the lithe baritone sax and deft, elegant writing of Gerry Mulligan. Beautifully recorded in a live concert setting, this band swings for the fences, presenting eight outings that capture the cool-heat of Mulligan's small groups with Chet Baker and Bob Brookmeyer.

"Baritone Dave Karr and trombonist Dave Graf are splendid surrogates for Mulligan and Brookmeyer....As for the music, one couldn't have asked for a more agreeable selection of Mulligan classics. The first five are from the "pianoless quartet" era of Baker/Brookmeyer, the last three from Gerry's big-band period, his own "I Know, Don't Know How" and sparkling arrangements of "You Took Advantage of Me" and Django Reinhardt's "Manoir de Mes Rêves."
--Jack Bowers, All About Jazz (www.allaboutjazz.com)

"The material on the live concert disk...is classic Mulligan, including 'Jeru,' 'Bernie's Tune,'
'Walkin' Shoes,' and a superb rendition of 'Line For Lyons.' The sound quality is excellent throughout."
--Britt Robson, City Pages
