A Saturday morning, two Mike's, two archtop guitars, two amplifiers, two microphones - two friends. Mike Wheeler and Mike Nase have both been integral parts of the rich music scene in Houston for years. Mike Wheeler having honed his skills growing up in Houston's jazz scene; Mike Nase being well renowned in the panhandle before his stint as a mainstay in the Houston area. These two guitarists met and began playing together in this diverse musical setting that exists in the music bars and restaurants in this town. Most recently they shared a weekly stint as an archtop duet, musing different stylings on well know standards with impeccable taste and timing. Some well known local musicians came to their gigs to hang out! Out of these living wage excursions came a deep friendship that is quite evident in the music they make together. Since Mike Nase lives outside of Houston, they developed the habit of extending the previous night's playing into Saturday morning at Mike Wheeler's house. Doing 'that Saturday thing' became a recurring event for these two extraordinary guitarists. This is a recording of 'that Saturday thing'. It is a simple, no frills snapshot of one Saturday morning's first takes on these classic standards. These two vituosos perform their eloquent accompaniment to each other's honest solos, letting the music take them where it goes before bringing it home again. The songs recorded this day were a simple two track recording of material that was familiar but unrehearsed.
