Trombonist McDougall holds to the model of well-tailored muscle that made high period Blue Note so thrilling, and his own 'Barbs Blues' nails that mix of bustle and groove. A smooth-rolling 'A Night In Tunisia' sets the tone, with tenorist Ross Taggart introducing a beautiful, full-bodied voice while guitarist Oliver Gannon is trenchant as ever. A Don Thompson melody, 'September', confirms they don't lack for grace, while the leader's bit, vital blowing in 'Crazy Rhythm' shows they don't lack sweat for either.
