…the music flows like a stream… …drags along different influences… …taking them to new banks to become something new… …the power of the groove works like a maelstrom on the sound… …the sounds break through this torrent… …fertile ground for new musical colours and shapes is emerging… …the musicians’ diverse experiences affect each other… …one takes from another… …the source springs from different arms… …the mouth is one… saxophonist, flutist and composer ((grosskopf)) was born on december 25th in 1972 in the southern part of germany. after attending the “academy of contemporary music†in zurich / switzerland he moved to leipzig in 1995 where he lives since then. this is where he earned wider recognition with three other projects ag trio (mainstream-jazz), scrooge (jazz-rock) and msp (drum’nbass / ambient). msp is the band he won the „leipzig jazz award“ in 1999 with. during his studies at the „leipzig conservatory of music“ he received a scholarship for the „skidmore jazz institute“ / new york in 1995, attending lessons and workshops with such greats as pat la barbera, milt hinton, renee rosnes and chris potter. the german „goethe-institut“ invited ((grosskopf))‘s band scrooge to play paris in january 1997. the following year the same band was invited to play the „european jazzfestival“ in poitiers / france. in fall 2000 ((grosskopf)) released the cd „scrooge“ with scrooge. two years later he won the „art award of the city of friedrichshafen 2002“. in november 2002 grosskopf‘s label (type:g)records released his latest cd „type:g“ ((grosskopf)) works with percussionist hakim ludin and dj raphneck under the name trance.ition. trance.ition mixes dance grooves with spherical melodies, jazz and funk are transcended by oriental rhythms and soundscapes. ((grosskopf))’s latest project is called nyle working on some dance-funk-jazz with new-york-based singer milesz (aka miles griffith). in december 2005 he released his latest cd “file under: g†on (type:g)records. ((grosskopf)) played several festivals, like: „leipzig jazzdays“, „jazzfestival emsdetten“, „ film-festival schwerin“ and the „european jazzfestival in poitiers / france“. he his playing all kinds of venues throughout germany, new york and paris.
