Lil Red came up in an East Dallas ghetto before moving to Tacoma, Washington. His lyrics reflect the toughness of a life in the dallas. He explains, "It's like I said in 'Down South Niggas", I got nothing to hide, so there's no discretion when I speak. All I can do is just keep it true. I've lived a crazy life and just want my story heard." At 17, Lil Red was disowned, and he was forced to relocate on his own. He landed in Tacoma and followed his hip hop calling to the Seattle Art Institute where he studied audio engineering. In 2001 Lil Red opened his own recording studio and started mixing and mastering, as well as perfecting his skills on the sound board. When everything sounded tight, he hit the booth and cut the underground album Just Another Hustle, which was a hit in the Tacoma streets. From "Monkey on My Back", which deals with his struggle against addiction while selling crack back in Dallas, to "We Make Those Panties Drop", a hot club banger, to "Calling on You", a deep song giving testimony to God featuring Thug Righteous, Lil Red's style on Just Another Hustle proved to be very diverse with lyrics that always cut straight to the bone.
