Excerpt from Superman & Wonderwoman (Track #7 on WDELTA 24.7 FM)

Born and raised in the delta, where crops grew and were praised/ My father told me, "make good grades son look how it pays"/ He a farmer with four children, all in grade school/ My mama, she works too, gotta pay the bills when they due/ Morning come, we in the welfare line feeling defeated/ waiting on government assistance cause still we need it/ My father gets a night job at the catfish plant/ Come home, we get full of the plant rejects/ Yet and still back home ain't much changing/ Still no hot water, we boiling water for bathing/ And my oldest sister, she wants to go to college/ Her grades say scholarship, but only a partial/ My father can't afford college, so he must do something drastic/ He went to trucking school, took the truck test, and passed it/ Away from home all the time, but that time's paying/ Everyone's growing older and everything's changing/ Ever since then we been having a phone and hot water/ and a roof over our head, with no leaks no more/ I recall my first pair of Nikes when I was seventh grade/ And when I was eight grade, no more free lunches, I had to pay/ Amazing how we went from have nots, to have somes/ To middle class, from living in the midst of the slums/ Keep on trying, Lord knows times change from here/ and when it seems like they never will, just continue to live.
