All Genres > Hip Hop/Rap > Rap > TROUBLEMANN: Here Comes Trouble

It's said that poets take on the troubles of the world in lyric or prose. They try to paint a picture of life in their words all to help people understand there is more out there if you only open your eyes to see.

Steven Via is the Trouble Man.

Poetry has always been a part of Troubles life. He writes from his heart and soul and the passion for writing lead him toward song writing. Trouble reaches deep and then projects to his audience a story or even more so a picture.

Trouble was raised in the country of West Virginia, the youngest in a family with five brothers and two sisters. At age seven his mother and father helped him so he could play the drums at church. Everyone realized at this point he could hear a song and be able to play by ear.

But the country meant no studios so he worked as a DJ in local clubs, performed at charities, entered band contests and with buddies, Robert Bonds and Greg Poole they started a rap group called The Capable 3. They were childhood buddies and still are.
Today, whenever he returns to West Virginia you can find them rapping against each other, even now.

Trouble left the day after his high school graduation to move to Texas to further his dream.
He says it didn't matter if there was money involved. His passion for writing and performing were always very strong. His goal was to live his dream.
"Making money doing what is fun is great. I feel like I was born to be in the music industry. Music gives me comfort and a peace of mind."

Trouble Man did a fund raising charity for abused children and gave all the proceeds to the children. He loves children and thinks they deserve a chance in life to be what they want to be. He laughs as he says, " I was the only rapper there."

Although his idols were Marvin Gaye, Tu Pac and George Clinton his style is different.

Troublemann Bio Pg.2

Sometimes considered more aggressive and cocky than others. Trouble says it's all because the vibes and feelings he gets on stage. It feels like it was all meant to be.
"It's like a chess game, strategic, a puzzle that when it is complete the words flow together so perfectly it paints a picture."

Steven now lives in Arlington, Texas. He has been performing since 1990 and rapping since 1985.

Trouble opened for 5th Ward Boys out of Houston and opened up for Boomtown. He's performed with The Rally Boys, Pimpster, Gylo, Nortorious Hoods, Coco Budda, Faddy Daddy among other local groups. Trouble has been in a Nothin' 2 Loose music video. Trouble played drums with an R & B Jazz group named Dejavu with 1 Nite Stand, 2 Nite Stand, and Latrenda. After the shows are over they would sell their CD's to make a few bucks. Along with the thousands sold in the streets 20,000 or more have been sold from North Carolina, Tenn., Arkansas ,West Virginia, Atlanta, Georgia and Columbus, Ohio to Texas.
One time he dressed under the pretext of being a head honcho record dude. Even going so far as borrowing diamonds, jewelry, and clothes to buying drinks for the bar. This was the funniest thing he ever did to book a gig.

Over the years Trouble has learned from his friend and business partner (they also own 2 business Mac Attac Records in Arlington and We Steam'n Entertainment).
Being a manager you need to be just as hungry as the artist and the artist needs to focus on writing instead of all the headaches of bookings. So, a manager is always a good thing and plays an important role. He has a few artists under him and also acts as a booking agent.

Trouble has recently signed with Nations Rhythm and everything since then has changed in his life. The multiple Grammy Award winner Anne Catalino from Sanctuary Management is mixing his music for his new album.

Trouble is a father and his son Tony is a drummer as well.
"Everything I do, everything I write, I do for my son. I even call and ask his opinion. He is my motivation. We are really close and I trust his judgment."

Trouble's advice for up and coming artist is the creed he himself lives by. That is to do whatever you have to do to get in. Don't give up on your dream. Never stop. Not even for one day. If you stop then the next day may be the day you are discovered. Don't worry about how many people are in audience, just perform because you never know when that one person will be sitting there and see you.

Troublemann Bio Pg.3

He goes on to say today's music has changed due to the people not always wanting to hear a story. They just want party music and that takes away because he loves to write and share some great lyrics. "I can't understand why people don't like rap. Rap is like any other music there is a message and it is very spiritual."

Love and peace.
Love your neighbor.
It shouldn't matter the color.
We all be sisters and brothers, see the power in numbers.
But we swear to God we don't need each other.
But we fight and kill and bleed each other.
Then unite and heal and feed each other.

As a role model, Trouble says stay away from drugs and violence. Although, he gives the green light to pre marital sex as long as both parties want it and protection is always used.
He also says he gives the green light on race relations.

When asked if politics belong in music he said yes because it helps address issues that people are not aware of. Of course it depends on the song. "Blessed Dead" was written for the 9/11 disaster.

Trouble says the pressure of the world out weighs the industry pressure. I love rap and enjoy what I do. Writing about pain and suffering is far more demanding. It's there and all I can do is help to change it in the lyrics I write.
In the above vein Trouble wants to give back to the people who he shared life with. The other musicians who can't afford outrageous studio prices. The homeboy from
West Virginia with a dream says he will build a studio in his small town for his son and all the others that haven't had the chance to make their dream come true.
Trouble, as said before, makes his home in Texas, his free hours are spent going to movies, shooting pool, working out at the gym and of course writing. One of his hobbies on the side is being a barber and there's always the drums.

Trouble is a Trouble Man

In closing in his own words

"I'm grounded and ready. I've spent the longest time and now I am ready"
The world is ready for you.
