St. Louis

If “sleep is the cousin of death” [The Game “Dreams” The Documentary,] it will be a long time before St. Louis’ last breath. In fact, it will be a long time before anyone mentions his name in the same sentence as sleep unless they’re saying: “St. Louis is one of the most slept-on artists ever” – Samuel Thibaud, President, CEO Konflict Records.

Born eyes wide opened on December 7, 1979 on the eastside of St. Louis, MO, Samuel “St. Louis” Armstead grew up like any other eastside child. Broke! Truthfully, everything about his inner-city adolescent years has been stereotypical. He lived in a run-down housing “project” characterized by crime, over population, and low-income minority families. He was raised by a single mother facing problems that single mothers face, and he loved basketball and music.

Typical? Not exactly. He didn’t just love basketball; he was a fanatic, and he didn’t just listen to music; he made it. If he wasn’t bouncing a ball, he was writing a verse. But, it wasn’t until he and his mom moved to Clarksville, TN, that he began to literally - rise above his circumstances.

As a 6’4” junior in high school, St. Louis dominated basketball and showed collegiate potential on the court and in the classroom. Uncharacteristically for someone of his background, he graduated high school and was accepted to attend one of “America’s Top 50 Schools,” Fisk University. While at Fisk he continued to dominate basketball and hone his skills as a lyricist and performer. It was also where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology and his alias “St. Louis,” because of his professed love and loyalty for his old neighborhood.

After college, St. Louis focused on his music career and teamed up with a long time college friend and started Konflict Records. In 2004, he wrote and co-produced his debut album ‘But I’m From Tha Eastside” and dedicated it to his old neighborhood, and his nurturing mother who had died of cancer a year earlier.

Now, following the release and measurable success of his debut album, St. Louis is more certain than ever that he will prevail, and leave his mark on the music industry.
