Born in Pittsburg California, Katana's father played congas with various men in the neighborhood and elsewhere. Learning how to play cow bell at age four and the timbales at age five Katana was instantly hooked on music. At age nine Katana was coaxed into freestyling by her cousins and fell in love with hip-hop. During junior high school she began to write R & B as well as loop beats but never took it serious. She continued her learning about music by taking classical and gospel piano lessons. Time went fast and Katana found herself missing music in her life like it were a living thing. In 2002 she started recording and made the decision to do all the work on the cd herself. Selling it out of stores and to passersby paid off and she realized there was truly a place for her in the industry.
