Coffee Mug has been writing traditional white college guy music for a long time and stealing ideas from people like Radiohead and Beck. In so doing, he acquired some proficiency with making appealing beats. During a particularly stark time in rap radio there were some jokes made about how easy it would to make something better. It started out with Compliment Rhymes: the opposite of battle rhymes. Somewhere in there it was noted that science has a lot of acronyms that, if inflected properly, sounded to the uninitiated ear like the common abbreviations most rappers use to claim sets and whatnot. Coffee Mug is 3 years jowl-deep in a Ph.D. program, and he listens to hip-hop a large proportion of the time. One might expect that this sort of thing could happen. Hip-hop heads should listen to more science, and science heads should listen to more hip-hop. Oh yeah. And how can you say "droppin' science" that much, and not eventually goad someone who knows better into stepping into the fray. I would be remiss if I didn't mention that much of this progress occured within the context and with the help of the Rap Masters of the Universe crew. Abe Lincoln and George Lazenby have been involved since the very beginning, and auxiliary/honorary members include Hughes3000 of Bluebell Bros. fame, Marquez, and DBS who provided some wonderfully creepy beats.
